January 2023 Brazil International Study Experience: In planning for the Brazil international study tour, program leaders emphasized the importance of incorporating operations and organizations where females were heavily involved in the leadership of the operation. This was an emphasis since for the first time, females make up 50% of the current cohort. In addition, program leaders proposed slight changes to the international study tour to highlight the diversity of the current cohort. Geraldine and her team did an excellent job including this in the international study tour. Most of the operations we visited were fluent in English which added richer discussion as participants engaged in conversations with the owners and operators. Two of the farms also hosted us for dinner at their personal homes which was a nice surprise. The hospitality received from these farmers was incredible and caused us to reflect on how we could enrich our international visitors' experience in our farming operations. In following several of the Brazil contacts on social media, it is great to see that the participants are also connected with them. This helps showcase the global connectedness of agriculture and that the exchange of ideas between groups is welcomed. The visits to agricultural innovation hubs, sustainable farming operations, and the presentation of diversified operations allowed participants to see how one of our largest competitors continues to make strides in agriculture.
