Billy Caldwell/Bill Collins Need-Based Scholarship Endowment for the NC Tobacco Trust Fund Commission Agricultural Leadership Development Program (NCTTFC ALDP)

The Caldwell/Collins Need-Based Scholarship will be awarded to a limited number of ALDP applicants who meet eligibility requirements. For each NCTTFC Ag Leadership Development Program, up to 10 scholarships of up to $800 per recipient may be awarded.  This financial aid is available to full and part-time farmers and to USDA, NCDACS, and N.C. Cooperative Extension (NCSU & NC A&T) employees whose gross wages, tips, etc. do not exceed $50,000. In the event, you are granted the financial aid, you may be asked to provide proof of income.

History of the Scholarship:

The original endowment was established in 2010 via the leadership of Dr. Lanny Hass, Ms. Eleanor Stell (program facilitators), and the alumni of the 2008-10 class of the North Carolina Tobacco Trust Fund Commission Agricultural Leadership Development Program (NCTTFC ALDP).  The endowment was established to honor Billy Caldwell and Bill Collins for their support and contribution to the NCTTFC ALDP within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.  Billy Caldwell supported the program from its inception until his retirement in 2000 and continued as a program contributor until 2013.  Collins has been the Director or Co-Director of 14 programs, beginning with the second program, each consisting of 50 days of training over a two-year period for about 30 individuals in each program.  Distributions from the fund will be used to award the Billy Caldwell/Bill Collins Need-Based Scholarship for the NCTTFC ALDP to a limited number of NCTTFC ALDP applicants who meet the eligibility requirements.  The scholarship will cover some portion of the chosen applicants’ tuition to the ALDP.  In the 2027-2029 program, the scholarship will be $800 of the $1,600 fee for selected recipients.
